Workshop 1: Response-to-Intervention: What It Is and Isn’t – Preparing Educators for the Changes in the Schools
|
In this workshop a review will be made on what Response-to-Intervention is and what it isn’t. The session will examine what the law and regulations say, what the courts are saying, what research says, how to do it correctly and some of the cautions. In addition, the session will provide an overview of how teacher educators can prepare future educators for their changing role in education—including their role in assessment, consultation, and direct services to students.

Workshop 2: Preparing Personnel to Work with Court-Involved Youth
|
This workshop will focus on issues related to (a) juvenile justice teacher attrition and retention; (b) effective instruction (academic, behavior, transition); and (c) classroom management. Participants will be provided with up-to-date literature and evidence-based practices as related to the above three foci. Practical implementation strategies will be emphasized for educators and university personnel.

Workshop 3: Preparing Teachers to Teach Students who are Culturally and Linguistically Diverse
|
In this workshop participants will increase their knowledge as to how to effectively infuse diversity throughout the design and delivery of lesson plans inclusive of learning activities to promote positive student learning outcomes. Participants will have an opportunity to create culturally responsive learning activities for the classroom and home environment for reading, math, and written expression.

CEC/NCATE Program Writers and Reviewers Workshop
This workshop will prepare participants to develop performance-based special education programs reports. Participants will learn the components of a performance-based teacher preparation program in special education including reviewing the CEC National Recognition Report format, sharing examples of report components, and providing tips for submitting a high quality report. The CEC standards will be highlighted and the NCATE/CEC report process will be described.

Participants will be able to:
- Use CEC standards to prepare special education performance reports.
- Discuss the essential elements of a performance-based program review.
- Identify how to document and present performance assessments and candidate data.
